LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! is a combined acting and digital storytelling training and workshops taking place 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, in Rosetown, on Wednesday, October 22.

Students who participate in LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! have the chance to either Play the Part or Tell the Story.

In the morning, some participants will receive acting and performance training by Saskatchewan Drama Association Consultant Michael Koops while other participants will be trained by film and video producer Layla Bautista in digital storytelling. In the afternoon, the two groups will combine for a workshop to create videos based on short scripts. The participants who were trained in acting will be the stars of the video while those trained in digital storytelling will be the directors, camera operators, and editors of the video. The videos will be featured on the Sun West website and social media.

More about the Creator Olympics

Creator Olympics is a program designed to encourage and recognize all creative activities within Sun West schools as well as on a division-wide level.

There are two elements within the Creator Olympics. One element is a series of workshops and other training sessions that are offered on a school or regional level as well as some that are offered at the division level. Each workshop or training session will focus on specific creative skills in such fields as digital storytelling, communications skills, performance and acting, social media content creation and more.

The second element is a point system that recognizes schools and individual students for creative projects and activities. Students and schools receive points for creative activities whether they are voluntary and personal, extracurricular or curricular. There will be two categories, one for larger schools and one for smaller schools. In each category the school with the largest number of points will receive a banner (similar to provincial sports championship banners) for display in their schools, and there will be various awards for individual students in such areas as performance, storytelling, visual creations and more. In the spring there will be a division-wide Showcase and Awards event to recognize creative work.
