Three talented student-athletes from the West Central District made their mark this fall at the District Cross Country meet, each earning a gold medal, for the fourth year in a row, for their outstanding performances.

Harper Kampen, a Grade 9 student at Rosetown Central High School, claimed her fourth District Gold Medal in Cross Country. Competing since Grade 3 or 4, Harper credits the sport with helping her prepare for hockey season and values the sense of community it brings. “It gives a sense of community and helps you bond with your classmates and teachers outside of class,” she shared.

Soffiah Bang, representing Outlook High School, is in Grade 8 and has been running Cross Country for five years. She enjoys long-distance running and appreciates how it helps her stay in shape for hockey. “My favorite thing about being in Cross Country was running with my friends and cheering on my older teammates,” Soffiah said. She also believes school sports help students grow: “You can always get better, become a more positive person, and they keep you busy.”

Oscar Minogue, a Grade 8 student from Elrose Composite School, began Cross Country in Grade 4 and enjoys the challenge each course presents. “I’m competitive and each course brings a new challenge,” he said. Oscar also values the connections he’s made through sport: “It’s good to connect with friends who also compete from other schools.”

Congratulations to Harper, Soffiah, and Oscar on their achievements and for representing their schools with pride and determination!
