Sun West Backyards Mobile Learning Unit is Coming

Sun West School Division has been awarded a Teacher Innovation Grant, to develop fresh, hands-on learning opportunities for students across Sun West through a mobile learning unit that will be called Sun West Backyards.

This project will transform a utility trailer into a mobile learning lab, delivering Environmental Science, Agriculture, and Land-Based education to every school in the division. Students will test soil and water, study wildlife, and explore local industries through real data and case studies.

“Learning from our own backyards helps students build confidence and understand the importance of the place they come from" said Karen McConnell, Sun West Learning Consultant and project lead. "It grows connection, fosters pride, and spot lights local careers; showcasing what’s possible right here at home.”
