Kenaston School congratulates the Grade 9 Health class for their outstanding leadership in organizing this year’s Terry Fox Run. As part of their Action Plan project, the students took on the challenge of coordinating the entire event. The students were responsible for everything from securing sponsorships and planning a kickoff to distributing pledge forms and arranging the walk itself.
The kickoff was a fun and meaningful start to the campaign. Younger students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 enjoyed a story about Terry Fox and coloured pages in his honour, while older students participated in spirited games that reflected the determination and grit Terry showed during his Marathon of Hope.
With a fundraising goal of $5,000, the students rallied the community and surpassed expectations, raising an impressive $5766. A big part of this success came from a BBQ burger lunch, generously supported by Southern Meats, who donated 200 burgers, and the Kenaston SCC, who provided the remaining supplies. Every dollar from the lunch went directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.
Despite rainy weather on October 3, students, just like Terry Fox, showed true perseverance and completed the walk and hosted the BBQ with help from dedicated volunteers. Their efforts not only honoured Terry’s legacy but also demonstrated the power of youth leadership and community spirit.
The Grade 9s aren’t done yet! They have more ideas in the works and hope to continue growing their total this fall. Congratulations to these inspiring students for making a real difference!
