Julia was the 2025-26 Sun West School Division nominee and was nominated by Sun West because of her demonstrated dedication to leadership and community service. Julia nomination was supported by the principal, teachers and coaches from her school, as well as community members she worked with and the advisors of Sun West Student Leadership Program. Julia has been part of the Student Leadership Team (SLT) at Beechy School since Grade 8, most recently serving as President. As part of her SLT she had played major roles in such activities as the Beechy Bounce Back Week, that focused on mental health. Julia has been involved in a wide array of school and community activities including several sports and the school yearbook club. Last year Julia was also an outstanding member of the Sun West Student Leadership Program where she played a key role in the development of many communications projects. Julia was able to do all of this while maintaining high academic standards, working part-time, piano training, and being an active member of her community.
In her nomination, one of Julia's teachers stated: “Julia Wiens possesses an admirable level of maturity and resilience, which is evident in her ability to handle challenges with composure and determination. She embraces feedback and is constantly seeking opportunities for personal and academic growth. Julia Wiens is a highly self-motivated individual who consistently sets high standards for herself and strives to surpass them.” Another teacher/coach stated in the nomination: “Julia’s actions are always driven by a genuine desire to make a positive difference. Her willingness to step in wherever help is needed speaks volumes about her character and her commitment to service.”
This is the third year in a row that the Sun West nominee has been selected for the Saskatchewan Youth Council. Tari Wenzel and Jan Nasibog, both of Rosetown Central High School, served on the Council in 2024–25 and 2023–24, respectively.
Congratulations Julia!
