Trustees Are Part of Your Community

On the evening of Tuesday, January 27, all Trustees were on hand for the annual Sun West School Community Councils (SCC) Chair and Vice-Chairs Meeting.  Trustees (Subdivision 5 standing on left). January Happenings

The Sun West Board of Education held a Committee of the Whole Meeting on January 13. Highlights of this meeting included:

The Manager of Human Resources met with Trustees to discuss potential themes for future liaison meetings with the Sun West Teachers Association (SWTA).

Trustees discussed recent disruptions at Outlook schools due to the town’s water being shut off, and Rosetown Central High School due to a fire, and the Division responses in each situation.

The Trustees reviewed preliminary results of the Mission/Vision/Values Survey that was still underway at the time of the meeting. Full results will be discussed at a meeting with Senior Administration on February 2.

The Trustees reviewed an article on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and discussed its implications as well as potential policies and regulations being considered by government and educational institutions.

The Sun West Board of Education held its regular meeting on January 27. Highlights included:

The Trustees received the Student Support Services Report from the Superintendent of Student Support Services and the Mental Health and Clinical Services Supervisor. This extensive report explained Sun West’s responses to the challenges created by increasing need for student support services and the difficulty of recruiting staff.

The Director of Education reviewed seven Administrative Procedures with Trustees and received their feedback on proposed changes.
