As part of Kenaston School’s ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, the school came together to participate in meaningful activities in recognition of Orange Shirt Day. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of residential schools and affirms that Every Child Matters.
Throughout the week, students and staff reflected on the importance of kindness, empathy, and respect, which are the values at the heart of reconciliation. Students and staff deepened their connection to nature and the Earth, recognizing that many Indigenous cultures emphasize the importance of living in harmony with the natural world.
To symbolize these shared values and learning, students created a beautiful art installation on the school playground. This collaborative display shares messages of kindness and empathy, serving as a visual reminder for the entire school community to walk gently and care for one another.
Students and staff also explored ways to express important values such as love, honesty, and integrity through nature-inspired artwork. Using natural materials and thoughtful creativity, students crafted pictures that speak to these themes, showcasing how deeply they engaged with the spirit of the day.
We are proud of the students’ reflections and expressions, and we remain committed to listening, learning, and growing together in the journey toward reconciliation.
