On November 25, 2025, Grade 12 students from North West Central School (NWCS) in Plenty and Biggar Central School 2000 (BCS2000) met at NWCS to participate in the “Game of Life: Reality Check,” a hands-on financial simulation designed to prepare students for life after graduation.
Each student was assigned a career based on their interests and post-secondary plans, with salaries calculated using Saskatchewan averages and real job postings. Students then navigated a series of booths representing real-world expenses such as housing, transportation, insurance, groceries, utilities, and more. Costs reflected current market values, and deductions were calculated using Canada Revenue Agency tools.
This event was supported by dedicated volunteers and local organizations, including Atlas York Insurance, Dodsland Credit Union, Village of Plenty, Saskatchewan Health Authority, and several community members.
The activity challenged students to use problem-solving, communication, and budgeting skills while making decisions about everyday expenses. It provided a valuable reality check, helping students understand financial responsibilities and prioritize needs versus wants. The afternoon also included sessions on nutrition, finances, and wellness as well as equipping students with practical knowledge for life beyond school.
