From May 27-29, twenty students from Dinsmore Composite School had an amazing experience with land-based education at Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation at Loon Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. Funding from the Royal Bank Canada Foundation made the this trip possible.
The students had very busy days and nights as they spent time with students from the local school, participated in traditional First Nations games, fileted fish, tanned hides, made ribbon skirts, took nature hikes, and spent a lot of time in beautiful Makwa Lake, swimming, kayaking and canoeing. Throughout their time at the First Nation they were accompanied by a First Nations Elder who shared his knowledge of the land with them.
