Congratulations to the Biggar Central School 2000 (BCS2000)Senior Boys Volleyball Team who have been awarded the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) Provincial Sportsmanship Banner for 3A Boys Volleyball for the 2024 season. The Provincial Sportsmanship Banner was presented to the Team by SHSAA Assistant Executive Director Jeff Kitts at a BCS2000school assembly on February 13.

At each SHSAA Provincial championship, A Selection Committee observes the players, coaches and fans of all participating teams. They watch for interactions with each other, the other teams, and the officials. The SHSAA indicated numerous coaches and spectators from other teams approached the Selection Committee members to mention the respect and behavior of the BCS2000team.

Both Head Coach Chase Samuel and Assistant Coach Amy Arnal were surprised when they learned their team was nominated in October before playoffs even started. Typically, teams are nominated and voted on following provincials, so being nominated before that felt very special.

“We have always held our team to a high standard in regard to sportsmanship,” explained Ms. Arnal. “We have been hearing from other coaches and communities for a long time that we have an exceptional group of boys, and it is great to see them recognized by the SHSAA,” she added.

At the presentation of the Sportsmanship Banner, Mr. Samuel shared, "When it came to our season, I really wanted us to go all the way to provincials because I thought this team deserved so much- I wanted to show them off to everybody. The character of these boys gets to live on forever on this banner."
