Election 2020

Board of Education Elections - November 9, 2020

(The following is an excerpt from the Saskatchewan School Boards Association Elections Booklet)

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead

In order to continue Saskatchewan’s tradition of education excellence, boards of education and the Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF) need the ideas, energy and commitment of people who want to do their best for students and their communities.

Locally elected boards have a vital role in serving Saskatchewan’s publicly funded education system. The longest lasting and most fundamental responsibility of boards has been to bring the voice of the public to publicly funded education.

If you decide to run for election, working as part of a board of education or the CSF means you care about students, schools and communities. If you want to be part of leading the learning community and building a better community at large, you’re taking a great first step!

Time commitment.

The Board of Education meets monthly in September – June annually with each meeting typically taking a full business day. The board also holds a number of Committee of the Whole meetings that are typically a full business day. There is a significant amount of reading and other preparation required in advance of each meeting.

Board members also have the opportunity to become members of a number of committees that oversee particular aspects of division operations such as finance, technology etc. These committee meetings will take place throughout the year and their length and frequency varies depending on the committee.

Board members can participate in a number of other opportunities that take place during the year. These include:

Saskatchewan School Board Association functions including the Spring and Fall assemblies.

Canadian School Board Association functions.
