Sun West Students and Staff Shine in Biggar Production

Many Biggar Central School 2000 (BCS2000) students and two Sun West staff members recently played a big part in the success of Biggar’s New Creations Community Players Youth Production.

The New Creations Community Players provides opportunities for young people interested in theatre to experience and learn about the production of a play by staging a play in their community. This year the New Creations Community Players in Biggar staged Oliver Jr by Lionel Bart. The show was performed at the Biggar Majestic Theatre for student audiences from both BCS2000 and St. Gabriel School and there were also community performances on December 1 and 2 and a community matinee on December 3.

Tanya Lehnert, the Principal of Springwater Colony School served as the Director and Choreographer for the production while Stephen Hadden, a BCS2000 teacher was the Sound Technician and Graphic Designer.

BCS2000 students who had roles in the play included Ayden Owens-Nahorney (Oliver), Roberto Ramos (Fagin), Annika Hadden (The Artful Dodger), Claire Mantyka (Widow Corney), Kori Owens-Nahorney (Bet) Malia Hadden (Rose Seller) Amelia Smith (Mrs. Bedwin), Lochlin Heather (Mr. Bumble), Sarah Drapak (Stawberry Seller), Skye Moore (Milk Seller) and Emily Hatzel (Mr. Brownlow). Isabelle Sparks from Rosetown Central High School was also in the cast playing Nancy.

In addition, a number of BCS2000 students had production jobs and worked behind-the-scenes. These included: Ava Hoffman (Assistant Stage Manager), Josh Smith (Stage Crew), Jonathan Hadden (Stage Crew) and Colton Heather (Stage Crew).

The talent and dedication of the cast and crew shone through the entire production that was very well-received by audiences. Congratulations to all the Sun West students and staff who participated in this excellent project!
