GRAFITTI
Our school was vandalized during the
break. Cleanup and repainting was completed quickly and the police are
investigating. If you hear anything that may be helpful please advise the
office, or contact the RCMP.
ABSENT/LATE REMINDER
Please
phone or email the school before 9:30 am if your child is going to be absent
from school for illness or other reasons. This also applies if your child
is going to be late.
EARLY
DISMISSALS
A
reminder that there are NO early dismissals this school year.
Staff
will be having full Professional Development (PD) Days instead.
The
next PD day is January 30th and therefore NO CLASSES on that day.
BUS
CANCELLATION
With
the arrival of snow it is time to remind parents of procedures in the event
of bus cancellations.
If
buses are cancelled in the morning they will NOT run in the afternoon, as it
is assumed students will be at home.
If
buses are cancelled in the afternoons, they will NOT run the next morning as
it is assumed students have been billeted out in town. In this case, buses
will run in the afternoon.
When
busses are not running in the afternoon ALL students will be dismissed at
3:25.
LUNCHES
BROUGHT TO SCHOOL
Please
remember to provide your child with the necessary cutlery for his/her lunch.

W.A.S.
IS A ‘NUT AWARE’ SCHOOL
Just a
friendly reminder…W.A.S. is a Nut Aware School. We have some students and
staff members who are allergic to nuts and/or peanuts. We encourage parents
not to send these products to school, but if you forget, a room will be
provided where students can eat their nut products, wash their hands, and
then return to their regular classroom. Thanks for your assistance in
making W.A.S. a safe place for all of us.
BUS
RAMP REMINDER
Typically more town students get rides to and from school throughout the
winter months. Now that winter has arrived, the school reminds parents that
at no time between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. and between 3:00 and 3:45 p.m. are
cars to be on the bus ramp. This time on the ramp is for the
exclusive use of busses only.
Crossing the bus ramp as a pedestrian is not permitted at any time
throughout the school day which is designated from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We
encourage parents to use the crosswalks if they park along the street as
they are not to be crossing the boulevard. The preferred choice of parking
would be to park at the East or West end of the school and use the sidewalks
to the entrance of their choice.
Walter
Aseltine School thanks you for your continuing cooperation in this matter.
ROOM
PARENT ASSOCIATION
The
Room Parent Association gave the school a treat! On Wednesday, January 11
at 2:15 p.m. the room parents supplied a granola bar (nut free) and cup of
hot chocolate to every student and staff member in the school.
Thank
you!
MILK JUG RECYCLING
Once again we will be collecting milk
jugs for recycling during the month of January. Wheatland Regional Centre
will collect our milk jugs from the school for recycling. The school will
receive a donation towards Telemiracle for their efforts. Please drop off
your clean and rinsed milk jugs at the west side parking lot in the wire
cage.
BRAIN
WALK
Our school has booked Brain Walk to come to our school on April 20th. This
is a hands-on interactive walk through the brain for all our grades to find
out about the different functions of the brain and how to keep our brains
safe and healthy!
We need a
minimum of 10 volunteers for the day (depending on how long everyone can
stay). If you can help for 1/2 a day or the whole day we would really
appreciate it. The staff from the Acquired Brain Injury Project will give
you simple instructions on what you would need to do. Morning times are
from 8:45 - 11:30; afternoon session is from 12:30 - 3:15.
If you could let
the office know as soon as possible that would be great.
SCC
REPORT
The SCC
would like to thank all the students that entered the winter themed writing
contest! The stories were fantastic. Every student that entered was given
a Kids Meal from
A & W.
Watch
for more contests to come in the near future!
SCHOOL
COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING
The SCC
will be meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31st at 7:00 pm. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
S.R.C TALENT NIGHT
The
Annual S.R.C. Talent Night will be on Thursday, February 2nd. Doors open at
6:30, show starts at 7:00. The Talent Show is for all students from Grades
K-6 and will host a variety of performances from music, magic to different
kinds of talent.
Forms
are available at the office. Deadline for entries will be on Friday, January
20. Come and enjoy a night of talent!
FREE HOT DOG LUNCH
On Thursday, February 9th the Room Parents
are providing all students with a FREE
Hotdog(s) for lunch. Classroom teachers will be asking each student how
many they will eat, but parents will need to send additional lunch items
(i.e. Snacks, fruit,).
If your child does not eat hotdogs then you
will need to provide the regular lunch.

WAS has begun
a new year of in motion. Every day all staff and students walk at 12:50
until 1:05. This break has proven to be very beneficial in getting everyone
ready for the afternoon's work. The community is invited to come and walk
with us at any time. A student leadership team consisting of 4 grade 5
students and 4 grade 6 students will lead the school doing movement
activities on days when we cannot get outside. We look forward to a new
year of fitness in our school.
