Special Initiatives

Fast Forword Program

At Walter Aseltine we are proud to use the Fast Forword Program with all of our Kindergarten students and selected students. The Fast Forword program is a series of computer based activities and games that train sound awareness, identification of colors, shapes and sizes, memory and letter-sound correspondence. The program is based on scientific research to improve reading readiness, improved attention and organization, improved thinking and focus, and improved foundation for reading instruction.

In Motion

Walter Aseltine School is proud to be an "In Motion" School. Every day at 12:50 the staff and students participate in activities both in and out of the school. This makes up a portion of our 30 minutes commitment to Quality Daily Physical Education. As well as improving our overall fitness the school has noticed students are more energetic and on task for the afternoon. We have received recognition for our quality Daily Physical Education Program annually since the 1999-2000 school year.

D.A.R.E.

Walter Aseltine School is very proud to be the first school in Saskatchewan who graduated students in the D.A.R.E. .(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program. It is a unique, comprehensive, prevention education program which is designed to equip elementary school children with skills to recognize and resist social pressures to experiment with tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. The D.A.R.E. program is offered in conjunction with the RCMP and teaches students about issues like self-esteem and peer pressure as well as the detrimental effects of getting involved with drugs, smoking, and alcohol.
