Other aspects of Sun West's support for extracurricular sports include funding through the decentralized budgets of each school for extracurricular programs. The funding is provided on the basis of a formula that provides each school with a base allotment as well as additional funding on a per student basis. In addition a designated numbers of days are provided each school to apply to the use of substitute teachers to replace teachers missing school for extracurricular activities. Schools determine how the funds will be used to provide activities with financial support. Schools can still supplement the school division funding through their own fundraising initiatives.
