Curriculum
Saskatchewan schools are in the midst of a curriculum change that will eventually encompass the whole pre-K to Grade 12 system.
The key elements of our curriculum renewal include:
- Outcomes-based Education: We are adopting a curriculum framework similar to other provinces who participate in the Western and North Canadian Protocol (WNCP) and Pan-Canadian Protocol. This framework provides relatively few general outcomes in each subject and grade which are qualified by statements called indicators which describe the depth and breadth of each outcome. In addition, the outcomes provide coherence and rigour within and across disciplines and attempt to ensure relevance and consistency for students.
- Reorganization of previous core curriculum policies into renewed broad areas of learning and cross curricular competencies.
- Integration of First Nations' and Métis ways of knowing into all curricula.
- Embedding of inquiry-based learning processes and new teaching processes such as Understanding by Design.
