IN THE NEWS – with Mr. OscarMicrophone with a sign that reads, 'News'

I would like to welcome everyone back for the new 2011-2012 school year.  I would especially like to welcome our new students to Elizabeth School.  I know that you will find this to be a very safe and exciting place to be.  I would also like to welcome, Mr. Aitken who will be teaching grade five.  Mr. Aitken comes to us from Eaton School.  Also, new to teaching at our school is Ms. Tanis Kitteringham.  Ms. Kitteringham comes to us from Alberta.  Welcome, Ms. Kitteringham to our school and to the Sun West School Division.  Ms. Kitteringham will be teaching some Middle Years Art and French.  We also have some new educational assistants.  Mrs. Bachmeier, Mrs. Gronenen, Ms. Vermette and Mrs. Whenham who have joined the Elizabeth team.   Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to welcome a couple of Interns from the University of Saskatchewan.  Catherine Pitura will be working with Mrs. Kirtzinger in Grade Two.  Mellissa Pellitier will be working with Mrs. Friesen, in her Grade Two class. Welcome everyone!!

Other than new faces, Elizabeth School also has a couple of other changes.  As you know from your informational packages that went home, Elizabeth School is now a Nut Alert School.  If you have not read the information that went home in August please take a few moments to go through that.  Also new to the school is the joint agreement between the Town of Kindersley and the Sun West School Division.  We will be seeing some playground renovations with the construction of a couple of ball diamonds on the Elizabeth School grounds.  Thank you to everyone who was involved in making that happen.

Good luck to all with the new school year, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at the school (463-6547).

Here’s to a super year!

Grade One – Mrs. Harrisview details

Welcome, Welcome!  It is so exciting to “fall” back into the school routine!  We are thrilled to have three new students come to us from Westberry.  Welcome to Rowyn, Tokada and Rhett!

While reviewing our ABCs we have learned about stars, saxophones, Sock Wars, and Snickers on Ss theme day, and we look forward to learning more words on each alphabet theme day.

Our big buddies from Mrs. Hopkins ‘ grade five class joined us to paint our humongous bodies.  What a blast of colour that turned out to be!

We have learned to read 14 new words already, and our parents are helping us practice the flashcards at home every night.  WE ARE READERS!

Upcoming in September are two super-special events – making Fall Soup and going on a neighborhood Safety Walk.

Have an awesome autumn!  We know we will!!

Grade One – Mrs. Parohlview details

We have eighteen students in our classroom.  They were all in Kindergarten with Mrs. Dimitroff, here at Elizabeth School last year.  We are taking some time to get to know one another since they were not all in the same Kindergarten class.  We have been learning the routines and expectations of the classroom, doing some Grade One work, and even having some fun!  The students are excited to have Mr. Doll to teach them Physical Education.

I am looking forward to a wonderful ten months with your children.  I hope to see the parents of all students in Room 105 at our Parent Orientation Night at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, in Room 105.

Grade Three – Mrs. Edgerton & Mrs. Corfield

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had an enjoyable, restful summer.  We are excited to lend a hand in Room 107 as we work as a team to have fun as we learn many new things.  We have a big group this year and are doing well at learning the grade three routine.

Apples and pears arranged in a fruit basketWe will be having our morning snack at 10:25 a.m. when we can enjoy the fresh fruit or vegetable we have brought to school.  The milk program is already up and running, so the students may buy milk or juice at lunch time.  Our school will continue to collect Campbell’s soup labels and Canadian Tire money as we are able to get many useful items for our school through these programs.  We will continue to use an agenda book for daily reminders and it also has many fun, interesting activities in it, so be sure to check it out carefully with your child.

A few important dates that are coming up in the near future are our class pictures on Thursday, September 15th, the Terry Fox walk on Friday, September 30th and the Grade Three parent orientation night on Tuesday, September 20th.

Grade Five – Mrs. Hopkins & Mrs. MoffattStudent sitting at a desk with a notebook and calculator

I would like to give a big Elizabeth School welcome to our new student, Kaley, and to our new Grade Five teacher, Mr. Aitken!  Also, a big “Welcome Back” to everyone returning from last year!!  It’s sure nice to see so many happy, excited faces on the first day of school!!

This year, the Grade Five students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of teachers.  I (Mrs. Hopkins) will be teaching Art to both classes of Grade Fives, Mr. Aitken will be teaching Science and Phys. Ed to both classes, and Mrs. Moffat will be teaching Health to both classes.  Mrs. Moffat will also be teaching Social Studies to our class.  The Grade Fives will also have the opportunity to work with Mrs. Oscar-Swan, as this is their first year taking Band.  (The students are quite excited about this!)  We are all very excited to teach your children during their last year of elementary education!  (Next year . . . middle school!)

Grade Seven – Mr. Burkell

Welcome back everyone.  We are looking forward to a very exciting year.  We have 23 eager grade seven students in Room 306 and are joined by Mrs. Anderson as our Educational Assistant.  We have decided as a class to make this year the best year possible by keeping Mr. Burkell happy. We do this by meeting all the expectations and goals we have set for ourselves, do our best at all times, and be positive leaders of our school.

Yellow smiley faceWe hope everyone has a great year.
