Changes to Communication and the Monthly Newsletter
In an effort to communicate more effectively with parents, we will be changing our monthly newsletter format. General school messages, the school calendar, and messages from me, Mr. Oscar, will still come in the paper copy version every month. This will be sent as a one page (both sides) coloured handout at the end of each month. This version will also still be available on the school’s website at www.sunwestsd.ca/elizabeth/ All of the messages from the classrooms themselves that were previously contained within the monthly newsletter, will come directly from your child’s teacher. Eventually, what our goal here at Elizabeth School is to have a database of email addresses from you, the parents, and be able to send school-wide messages and the monthly newsletter directly to your home email address.
Elizabeth’s Prevention Programs
One of the things that we take pride in here at Elizabeth School is the number of prevention programs that we offer our students. For example, The Dove Self-Esteem program will be running soon. It teaches kids to recognize the inner beauty in themselves and to appreciate all of the things that they can contribute. We also have ongoing Bully Awareness projects and presentations that help students not only deal with bullying behaviours themselves, but to become active participants in helping victims in bullying situations. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the Autism Society who is currently running a Social Skills program with students. The program helps students to recognize proper behavior in social situations and to feel more comfortable with themselves in such situations. I thank the efforts of all of the agencies and professionals that help our students in so many different ways.

SLC Update – The SLC has been very interesting. In September we had a Red and White day on the day we did the Terry Fox Walk. In October we had a cool school day where everyone had to wear sunglasses. The winner of the “cool school” day was Miss Ritchie’s Grade Four classroom. This month we will have a crazy day where everyone will dress up crazily.
Santa’s Hut - West Central Crisis & Family Support Centre Annual Santa’s Hut Santa’s Hut will be held on December 17, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Elizabeth School Gym. Donations can be made at the Crisis Centre or call Wendy at 463-6655, 463-2379 or 463-7685 for more information.
