Elementary Field Trip a Big Success

The 2017 K-6 field trip will go down in the history books as a huge success!

K-4 students got to experience riding on a sports bus and the 5/6s were lucky to have parent volunteers drive them. After an early morning start and a quick 2 hour trip, we arrived at the park.

Our 71 students were eager to enjoy the day and to participated in educational activities outside the classroom. The K/1/2 class started off their day with a nature hike. They learned about pond life ...and were able to compare the similarities and differences to the Kindergarten classroom garden! They also did an art connection activity. The 3/4s explored the forest habitat and did a First Nations hike with some hands-on learning. They stopped at the Visitor Centre Museum as well. The 5/6 class began with a Solar Walk. They realized they already knew a lot about the solar system and learned even more! They enjoyed a walk on the trails through the beautiful and peaceful forest, ending up at the Amphitheatre for some not so peaceful impromptu singing and dancing entertainment. In the afternoon, they went geo-caching! So much fun to put into action the learning from our research beforehand.

A Spartan Salute to our SCC Members - Janina Evans, Melissa Hynd, Lisa Presler, and Pam Schmaltz - and to our parent volunteers - Trisha Lee, Barry Lynch, Tamara Thiessen, Vanessa Price and Tiffany Wagner. Thanks to them for cooking hot dogs and preparing our lunch. It was extra yummy! Funny how a little fresh air sharpened the kids' appetites.

It was an amazing field trip to Cypress Hills with many memories made! An optimal, outdoor learning experience for our students. We had a blast going hiking, discovering wildlife, eating ice cream and hot dogs, and learning!
