In the fall of 2006, provincial legislation required every school in Saskatchewan to organize a School Community Council (SCC) which replaced the former Local Board of Trustees and Local Advisory Committees. The SCC will provide the community with a voice in local education as well as provide parents and community members with opportunities to initiate, support and build programs that enhance learning and student well being. SCCs in the Sun West School Division will work with schools to ensure success for all. The election of members to the Eaton SCC was held on Monday, November 27th, 2006. Through acclamation the following people served as Eaton’s new SCC:
one year term: Fritz Eckstein (Chairperson), Lisa King (Secretary), Ronalee Guidinger, Craig Bews
two year term: Jack Humeny (Vice Chair), Devan Punter, Susan Theaker (Treasurer)
The council also included the Principal, Chris Oscar; an appointed staff member, Trevor Drury, Vice-Principal/Teacher; and two appointed students—Kaitlin Frison, SRC President, and Jenna Lothammer, SRC Vice President; and Margaret Irwin, Sun West Board Member.
The SCC again meet monthly in the 2007-2008 school year. Returning members included: Jack Humeny, Devan Punter, and Susan Theaker. Members elected for a second term include: Fritz Eckstein, Lisa King, Ronalee Guidinger, and Craig Bews. We welcomed Principal Craig Vanthuyne, as well as student representatives Jenna Lothammer and Jesse Miller.
The members of the 2008-2009 SCC included: Fritz Eckstein, Chairman; Jack Humeny, Vice-Chairman; Ronalee Guidinger, Treasurer; Lisa King, Secretary; Craig Bews; Devan Punter; Craig Vanthuyne, Principal; Mark Kosior, Staff Rep; Brooklyn Assmus and Shanel Follensbee, Student Representatives.
Eaton SCC saw a few changes in its membership in 2009-2010. This year's SCC members include: Fritz Eckstein, Chairman; Vanessa Price, Vice Chairman; Devan Punter, Treasurer; Richard Adams; Jack Humeny; Craig Vanthuyne, Principal; Michael Hoult, Staff Representative; and student representatives: Brooklyn Assmus, Shanel Follensbee and Randi Somerville, also acting as Secretaries.
The 2010-2011 Eaton SCC members include: Vanessa Price, Chairman; Devan Punter, Treasurer; Richard Adams; Craig Vanthuyne, Principal: Michael Hoult, Staff Representative; and student representatives & Secretaries: Randi Somerville and Morgan Follensbee.
Since it's inception the Eaton School SCC has accomplished many things, including:
- development of a constitution
- promotion of Eaton School and community relations in a variety of ways, such as involvement in a community "Meet and Greet" evening
- promotion of literacy at Eaton School through a Book Exchange, collaboration with the local Wheatland Library, and student participation in a reading incentive program called Spartan Express
- recognition of Graduates at Graduation ceremonies
- recognition of staff during Teacher Appreciation Week
