DES SCC

We have officially finished 2 complete years as a SCC and what a great experience it has been.  The 2007 – 2008 SCC consisted of elected members Rebecca Farrell, who served as chairperson, Dave Nykiforuk as vice chairperson, Janna Gray as treasurer, Dixie Dean, Janice Lloyd, Troy Read, Gary Bonneau, and appointed members Shari Martin and Laura Willner who served as secretary.
Here is a brief overview of what we accomplished this year:

  • Reviewed & changed our constitution and also clarified our roles
  • Attended a division wide inservice for SCC members
  • Attended a collaboration workshop along with the DHS SCC to work out some of the details of our amalgamation in the fall of 2008
  • Had Davidson’s EMO coordinator speak to us to give information on some of Davidson’s emergency plans and how that would affect students at the schools
  • Helped with hot lunches each month at DES
  • Planned activities for the students with DES staff to support the reading initiative that Sun West School Division has in place like reading backpacks for each room, Reader’s Corner in the Davidson Leader and  “Local Hero” guest readers each month.
  • Organized a book swap for DES students
  • Set student fees and rental rates for DES
  • Provided lunch for the staff during teacher appreciation week
  • Organized a school clothing order for T-shirts
  • Co-sponsored a community information workshop with DHS SCC regarding the amalgamation of DES and DHS

In May we surveyed all students and staff from grades K – 12 asking what they thought made a good school, what we did well at DES/DHS and what we could improve on.  We also had a chance to survey the community at our workshop.  We will take this information and use it as we help with the school learning improvement plans for the 2008 – 2009 school year.  If you have any comments please contact one of the members.
