STUDENT FEES/YEARBOOK
Yearly student fees are mandatory:
Grades K-9 - $10.00
Grades 10-12 - $20.00
Family - $50.00
Fees will be collected at the office, and receipts will be issued for your records. Yearbook purchase is optional; the cost is $30.00.
LOCKERS
Lockers for K-6 students are located in classrooms. Hall lockers are assigned to 7-12 students at the beginning of each school year by the SRC. School locks must be used; these are available from the SRC. A $5 refundable deposit is required. Students should not leave money or valuables in their lockers or change rooms. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen articles, and reserves the right to inspect lockers at any time.
TEXTBOOKS AND LIBRARY BOOKS
Textbooks and library books are provided for students at no charge. Textbook condition is noted when they are handed out and the student is expected to return the text at the end of the term in similar condition.
The school library provides a wide range of up to date print and non-print material which can be used for resource based learning, independent study, and recreational reading. Materials can be borrowed for a three week period. As materials are expensive to replace, students are encouraged to follow library procedures. Magazines are to remain in the library at all times.
SMOKE/TOBACCO FREE SCHOOL & GROUNDS
Our school is a smoke/tobacco free environment. Smoking and or chewing tobacco are not permitted during school (or public) activities within the building or on the school grounds.
FIRE DRILLS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
- Fire drills and emergency procedures are important as they may mean saving lives. Therefore, each fire drill or emergency procedure practice should be taken seriously.
- Teachers will practice and explain emergency procedures to all students.
- If a fire drill or emergency procedure practice occurs, locate the nearest exit route. Fire and evacuation plans are located in every classroom by the door.
FIRE DRILL
- In a fire drill, exit from the building in an orderly and calm manner in single file.
- Students assemble outside in the designated area at the back of the school.
- Home room groupings in single file will be formed with Kindergarten on the south end and in numerical order to grade 12 on the north end.
- Home room teachers will take attendance and report to the designated teacher.
- Teachers and students will return to school on signal from the principal or designate.
BUS STUDENTS/BILLETS
Students are accountable to the bus driver for their conduct while being transported on school buses.
Procedures for Bad Weather
- The school will remain open and teachers will be in attendance.
- Individual bus drivers will decide whether or not the bus will run and will contact parents if the bus doesn’t run.
- Each student requires a designated town billet.
- We will contact the billet of the youngest or only child to ensure someone is at home when the student is dropped off.
- Students are to go directly to their billet on the bus and are to phone their parents once they arrive.
ILLNESS AND INJURIES
First aid for superficial scrapes and bruises will be administered at the school. If an injury is of a more serious nature, parents will be notified immediately. The student will be taken to the hospital by the school if the parent cannot be reached and emergency treatment is necessary. School staff will not sign medical forms, but an accident report will be completed and submitted to the insurance carrier of the Sun West School Division.
If students are required to discontinue an activity due to illness (ie: physical education, recess and noon hour), a signed, dated note must be sent by parents.
Leaving the School Grounds
Students must have signed parental permission to leave the school grounds. In grades 7-12, this note is signed on the student registration form. Grades K-6 students must have a signed note to indicate they will be leaving or picked up.
MEDICATION
Students requiring medication of any kind (aspirin, tylenol, other) must have a parental consent form completed and returned to the school office if the medication is to be stored in the office. This form must be updated each school year. The school staff will not administer medication without signed parental direction.
STUDENT LOUNGE
The student lounge is located in the north wing of the high school and is intended for use by grades 10-12 students. It is the students’ responsibility to keep the lounge clean.
VEHICLE USE / BIKES
Student bike racks are provided at some entrances to the school. Students are expected to walk their bikes on the front sidewalk or through the playground area for safety reasons.
Student vehicles may be parked in the north student parking lot. Students may not use their car during regular school hours unless they have parental permission to leave the school during spares or for other commitments. Students using their cars to attend work experience placements must have parental permission and may not transport other students. Using defensive driving skills learned in driver education is important for everyone’s safety.
Davidson School does not allow students to drive themselves to school events.
